Pickup by Google

Is there any special code that is needed on a FrontPage generated website in
order for Google to pick up the site or does it just happen eventually?

It was told to me that the search engines will also scan your homepage pick
up detail information you provided in your Description, Content & mainly
Keywords. You can select Page Properties on your home page insert the
details.
 
It happens automatically, but depending on what search algorithms they're using this WEEK...it wouldn't hoit to pay attention to how you write your meta tags AND the text on your index page...and lotsa other stuff.

Google does use your description and keyword meta tags, just your title and
the text content on your page.

There is no special code but you can make FrontPage websites more
search engine friendly and so entice Google to spider them more
quickly. If you are able to put the link to the new site on an
already ranked Google website, then Google may well spider your site
more quickly than if you just submitted it. FrontPage does not (I
believe in all versions), by default, put your title meta tag first
and you can and should change the order of meta tags to ensure that
your most important title meta tag comes first. Also ensure that
words in your title tag have substantial relevance to text on your web
page.

doesn't have the site. Is this still within the range of normality?

No, that's too long to wait without re-submitting. Eventually, even if you
don't submit your site, it will get spidered, but it's possible to get
indexed within a few days of submission. Also, Google may not index or list
a site if it doesn't have at least one incoming link to it from another
site. Optimize your site, then re-submit.

I get crawled all the time, even though I've never submitted to google (because I'm too lazy to actually finish the site!)...I wish the spiders would wait till I'm done - I don't even have meta tags written. Definitely has something to do with links in and out...and content of index pg of course.

You can keep them out with a robots.txt file or simply put this into each
page you don't want indexed:
<META NAME="robots" CONTENT="index, no">
When you're ready to be indexed, edit your robots.txt file to allow them or
change the word 'no' to 'follow' on the pages.

just don't forget to remove the line when you're done! you'd be
surprised how often indexing problems turn out to be a noindex tag or a
robots.txt exclusion...

Using the robots.txt file is generally a better solution because some
spiders may not pay attention to the robots meta tag...
