I want to reduce the size of the web folder files i upload to our provider...
so i have tried taking my photo folder out of the web folder and keeping it
on my hard disk but... when i create a photogallery frontpage automatically
wants to create embedded files in the web folder so i have not saved any
space. How can i reduce the size of the web folder files?

The photos have to be published with your web.
People can't access your hard drive from the internet.
Also, photos are not "embedded" they are merely "linked to."

To add to what Steve posted...optimize your images before you Import them
into FP for use in your web...this will cut down on your web size
tremedously...a 200K file can go down to 15-20k usually.

IrFanview is a great (and free) program to do this with if you don't already
have an image editor.

well...it's not a full image editor but don't know whatelse to call it.

To reduce size of image files you need to use an image editing program
to reduce the image resolution, the image size (dimensions) or change to
a different field format. BMP and TIFF file are hug in fie size, JPEG,
GIF and PNG are smaller in size.

If you don't have an image editor, you can try the following free:

Online editor
http://iaza.com/

Google's Picassa
(use the Export option to make conversions)
http://picasa.google.com/index.html

Windows' Paint (look under Programs-->accessories)
The version that comes with XP does a decent job

MS Phot Editor (coems with older versions of Windows)

And there are several shareware
