my file was to big and have to reduce it, how do i reduce file sizes

To answer your question properly will require more information.

What type of file is it (last three letters in the filename, after
the ".")? How large is it 1) in pixels, 2) in bytes (can be determined
by right-clicking on the file and selecting "Properties")?

What program were you using to "insert" it, and into what kind
of document?

Several methods to re-size photos.

1. Download IrfanView(free) from http://www.irfanview.com/

2. Download the PowerToy Image Re-sizer from the MS site

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

3. Use Windows Picture and Fax Viewer

4 Download Faststone viewer and editor(free) from http://www.faststone.org/

If you're going to be dealing with photos you need a good editor anyway, so
Irfanview and/or Faststone will work well.
