Photo Editor cannot recognize Jpegs

I've recently had to reinstall my Windows XP Home Ed. and my Office 2000
Professional Ed. After reinstallation MS Photo Editor is no longer able to
recognize or open jpeg images. It now gives me the "Unknown file format"
message. Another glitch that has appeared along with this is Publisher can no
longer import any images (i.e. files, jpegs, or clipart). Since these two
programs have become vital to my work, I am now in deep doo-doo.

I've tried reinstalling both Windows XP and Office Pro 2000 mutiple times,
I've tried all the maintenance modes, and I've followed the instruction
posted in MS's article 260151. So far nothing has worked.

Anyone have any further instructions or advice?

A correction to my original post: After some further experimenting, Publisher
will import clipart and probably some files, just will not receive jpegs.

Your filter may be damaged. Rename the jpegim32.flt to jpegim32.old and drag a new
instance from your setup disk.
The filters are in a folder similar to this:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Grphflt

I've tried your suggestion, but it didn't solve anything. It still gives me
the same old "Unknown file format" message. But thanks anyway.

If you download fresh copies of .jpg files from
the net, do you receive the same errors when
opening them?

Though not specific to your issue...maybe

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I do have the same errors if downloaded freash
from the net. Also the same errors when downloaded fresh from my digital
camera.
