Photo card reader problem

Using 32-bit Vista Business with 4Gb of RAM, I have tried using copy and
paste from my Jessops Universal Card Reader to Windows Explorer as I have
some problems using Photoshop Elements 5's built in transfer program which
does not work properly. (It is version 5.0.2 of Elements which has the Vista
patch.)

It was not successful because I get the warning message :-
"An unexpected error is preventing the operation. Make a note of this error
code, which might be useful if you get additional help to resolve this
problem. Error 0x80070456: The media in the drive may have changed."
Either one of the files will transfer, or they do and Elements thinks one
file is corrupt, so I think this is a Vista problem which is also stopping
the transfer in Elements.

(The problem in Elements is that if I try to use the card reader Elements
detects the correct number of photos but then gives this irritating message
:-
"Files were not obtained from this device. Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0.2
cannot obtain files from this device. Please ensure that the device is
connected properly, or that the battery is charged, and try again."
This means that I have to download from my camera, which I prefer not to do
as I have a card reader which worked perfectly in XP, taking 1 or 2 seconds
per photo against minutes per photo from the camera.)

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Does this problem mean that the Jessops Universal Card Reader does not work
with Vista, even though it worked in XP?
I cannot see anything on www.jessops.co.uk to suggest that it does, or does
not, work with Vista. Is there any way of telling?

Lance,

Yes, Vista is quite flaky. I am having programs close down because of
problems, although I do not know what the cause is.

I have solved the card reader problem by moving my expansion card with 4 USB
2.0 sockets from my XP computer to my Vista one. It is possible that all of
the USB sockets connected direct to my mainboard are not capable of providing
enough power to start the download.

Roll on the first Service Patch which will solve, I hope, some of the many
problems. Good luck with resolving your problems.

I have a Sandisk Imagemate 8 in 1 USB card reader that I plug into a
external Belkin 2.0 7 port powered USB hub works perfect everytime. I
prefer ACDsee & Paint Shop Pro over the Windows programs but all
work fine with transfering the pictures.

I am also receiving the same error code, but not from a card reader, although
I do have a Jessops card reader that works fine with Vista.
I am running Vista Home Premium on both my laptop and my PC. Having
successfully written a large number of RAW files to DVD on the laptop using
Nero, the files will not then copy from the DVD to the PC when I try to drag
& drop. This is when I receive the error message "An unexpected error is
preventing the operation. Make a note of this error
code, which might be useful if you get additional help to resolve this
problem. Error 0x80070456: The media in the drive may have changed."

But where is the 'additional help to resolve the problem', as searching the
Microsoft site yealds no results.

Adrian

Hi. I`m not very good in English, so sorry. But I`ve also had same problems
with my 1 Gb Transcend v168 transfering files to my laptop and the same
message "An unexpected error is preventing the operation. Make a note of this
error
code, which might be useful if you get additional help to resolve this
problem. Error 0x80070456: The file in the drive may have changed." So
operation was failed. At this time no information about this at all except
here.
