Phone the mothership?

Every so often, my IE6 v6.0.2800.1106, tried to establish is connection with
URL:
"a.sc.msn.com" but is stopped by my firewall when I have the connection
blocked.
If I attempt to access this URL I get, "no authorized".

Does anyone know what this URL does, and why my browser wants to contact it
without my knowledge or consent?

It is trying to look for update. Go to Tools > Options > Advanced. Uncheck
"Automatically check for IE updates"
