Browser does not support HTTP Authentication....

Hi guys...there is one website that I frequently use that having requested
me to enter Username and Password always tells me..." Browser does not
support HTTP Authentication".
I am then taken to a page...ACCESS DENIED.....If your browser does not
support HTTP Authentication, please use this form:
I am then asked to enter my login details again and this time I am
successful.

My browser is IE6 and the website is like
_http://www.xxx.net:555/xxx/index.php

Is there any reason as to why IE6 v6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633 does not
allow HTTP Authentication?

Any help would be appreciated....thanks

Under Internet Options, Advanced Tab, Scroll down to HTTP
1.1 Settings. If (Use HTTP 1.1) is checked, uncheck it.
See if that helps.

You Cannot Access Your MSN E-mail Account or Authenticate with a Web Site in
Various Programs
When you try to access your MSN e-mail account, you may receive the
following error message:
You cannot successfully authenticate with a Web site in various programs
(for example, Windows Media Player). For example, you may be prompted for
your user name and your password several times, and you may receive the
error message that is described in this section or an other error message
from the Web site that indicates that you cannot access even after you type
the correct user name and password.

Hi H Leboeuf,
Thanks for your suggestions...
I have both 813951 and 813489 installed in IE6..
Very odd, it only happens with this one website..

the website is like_http://www.xxx.net:555/xxx/index.php

Do you have the latest version of wininet.dll?
E.g. the one installed by hotfix 831167?

I can recall someone else having difficulties with non-standard ports.
It may be a special case though because the user wanted to use port 80 with https.

I suggest you take a trace (e.g. use netcap) to see if there is a similar
error or if an intermediate request being made before the error response
comes in. Doing that could also lead to a workaround, (e.g. finding an
explicit URL to enter which avoids a redirect.)

Good luck
