Phantom Taskbar

I am using IE 6.0 and Windows 98 SE. When in desktop
mode, the taskbar is there with clock/calendar, assorted
control and program icons. When IE is launched, that
taskbar disappears and is replaced with an
anemic "taskbar" that has nothing on it other than
an "Internet" icon. How can I get at least the
clock/calendar to show up again when running IE? Thanks!
