PF Usage always ~240?

Hi all,

Even though my PC is not running any applications, except for the task
manager, its PF usage is always around 240? My RAM is 512MB, Pentium D 3.0
processor, and virtual mem is 768...

And what is svchost.exe? I googled it and it says, sometimes its a virus...
How will I know whether it is a virus or not? Please help.

BTW, Im using the latest version of AVG.

Thanks for your concern...

Looking at the processes under the task manager, 7 svchost.exe's are
running... Is it normal?

PF Usage as reported by Task Manager includes the unused portions of
memory allocation requests.

Applications, device drivers, and Windows components typically issue
memory allocation requests for more memory, sometimes very much more
memory, than they ordinarily need under normal circumstances. And by
design, Windows must allocate memory address space to satisfy the full
amount all of the memory allocation requests that are issued.

So what Windows does is to allocate physical RAM only to those
portions of the requests that are actually used and to map the unused
portions to available locations in the page file. Note that this
mapping does not require any actual disk activity - all that is done
is to make entries in the memory mapping tables maintained by the CPU.

This is why it is often possible to have a PF Usage value that is
larger than the actual physical size of the page file. For example on
my own computer at this moment Task Manager shows PF Usage as 591 mb
but my actual page file is only 80 mb in size.

Hope this explains the situation.

Good luck

Thanks for educating me. You've deciphered the code, I need an explanation
here not an answer of Yes or No... Peace out! :D
