pesky alien toolbar and pop up adds

R

Rick

I am not a computer guru, but I'm going nuts. It Seems
when I used my Outlook express a ton of spam e-mails came
up, I was going through and deleting them and clicking
the "remove me from your list" buttons that are part of
the websites they take you too. However one of these e-
mails somehow put a stupid toolbar on my browser that
loads everytime I go to the internet, it also shoots up
pop up adds on browser screens I've never seen before.
How can I get rid of this??

Here's some amatuer advice I've picked up.

Don't respond to the emails via their remove me link.
This just confirms your email address to illegitimate
spammers and never seemed to help me.

To dump the toolbar program, go to Control Panel, Add
Remove Programs and scan the list for programs that piggy
backed their way into your PC. A log of programs like
Gator, AOL Istant Messenger and others come with these
pop up ad and toolbar programs bundled with them. Try
uninstalling the suspect programs and that should help.

There are also Pop Up blockers you can install. I like
the one that came with the Google Search Bar. It's a IE
toolbar, but one that I chose and like.

There are other programs that scan your computer for
spyware.

Good Luck

download and run AdAware (www.lavasoft.de)

and

SpyBot Seek & Destroy (http://security.kolla.de). install them, UPDATE them,
and RUN them to seek/remove spyware etc stuffs.

Hopefully running these programs will help you.
