personal.xls read only opens when I launch excel either from the icon or when
I launch another .xls spreadsheet (thus, it always opens two spreadsheets -
personal.xls read only - a blank .xls - and the spreadsheet that I need to
manipulate). Any idea where the setting is to turn this off?

Hi
try 'Windows - Hide' on your personal.xls and then save it, close Excel
and try again

Hello Frank:

The “hiding thing†does not work in my situation:

I export my data from Oracle environment. I can not actually adjust the
process; Oracle dumps data in .TSV file to Windows. Then I pick it up by .tsv
extension and forward it to Excel (I do this by setting “.TSV files are to be
associated with Excel†in Windows XP folders options).

Every time the file reaches Excel it tries to open Personal.xls and I
receive a message “Read onlyâ€. It is like that when Personal.xls is hidden or
not.

If I do not have Excel open, the process runs perfectly. If I create or open
existing file from Excel environment I do not have any warnings when
Personal.xls is hidden.

Any ideas?
