personal.xls locked for editing

I've recently created macros in Excel that are stored in personal.xls. It
might be because it never happened that I opened two instances of Excel since
I've created these macros (although I doubt it), but every time I open two or
more instances of Excel, I get the message that the personal.xls file is
locked for editing by myself.

Is there a way to go around this or do I have to live with it, considering
that I need the macros to be available in all Excel files I open?

Thanks.

If you mark the file Readonly (using windows explorer), then you won't get the
message. But you won't be able to change the file in that state, either.

One way or the other, this is a problem.

Only a problem if you have more than one instance of Excel running.

What is the purpose for that?

Personally, I don't directly edit my macros in my personal.xl* file. I
experiment in another workbook. When I'm happy, I'll put the new/updated macro
into my personal.xl* file.

Since I don't do this very often, I can make sure that the file is not marked
readonly and I only have one instance of excel open.
