Hi, I thought that windows xp professional included a
scaled down version of a web server (IIS?) that could run
locally. Using it, you could test your web applications
locally before deploying to the production web site.

Is this true? If so, how do I start the server?

If false, what product would I buy (or download) to set
up a local server.

Thanks,

Brian.

You have to install it first. Use add or remove programs > add/remove
components.

This is very true and very cool. All you need in the WinXP install CD. Then
install the IIS services. Once they are installed you can access it from
administrative tools. It takes some playing around with a a little web
knowlege, but once you get it running it's really cool.

It is not installed by default - in Add/remove Programs - click Windows
Components on the left, and there is a check box for it - check and OK
for it to be installed (have the CD to hand)
