Personal Macro Workbook

Upon loading Excel, I've lost my "custom icons" which
were linked to macros in my Personal Macro Workbook. It
appears my Macro Workbook may be gone. Whe I try to save
any new macros to the Personal macro workbook, I get the
following error message:

PERSONAL MACRO WORKBOOK IN THE STARTUP FOLDER MUST STAY
OPEN FOR RECORDING

In effect, I'm unable to save to it (or create a new
one?) as well.

Any ideas on how I may recover this Personal Macro
workbook, or how I can replace it if necessary?

First of all, unless you are using Excel 95 or earlier, Customizations to
Toolbars and Menus are saved in your *.XLB file, not in the Personal Macro
Workbook.

Second problem......

Try opening excel and then
Help|about MS Excel|
Click on the Disabled Items Button

and see if your personal.xls file is listed.

If it is, try enabling it. If you can't enable it successfully--next time you
start excel, it gets marked disabled again, you may have to delete you
personal.xls file and reload it from your backup.

(and enable it one more time)

If you have no backup, move or delete elete the bad one from XLSTART folder
and create a new one by Recording a Macro to your Personal Macro Workbook.

You may have to do the Help>About>Enable thing.

Gord,

Worked perfectly...once I enabled the personal workbook,
my icons re-appeared too! Thanks so much.
