Occasionally when I start Outlook 2003 I get a message
indicating that the data file was not closed properly.
It checks the file and never indicates that anything is
wrong, but I get this regardless of how Outlook was shut
down previously.

Any ideas as to the cause?

Is the Outlook proces terminated before you shut down your machine?

I believe so. I shut down Outlook using either File-Exit or the Close
button.

Double check it by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL and choose Taskmanager

According to Task Manager Outlook is terminated before shutting down the
system.

Alright. Is the pst-file located on a network share?
Run scanpst.exe against your pst-file and see if it comes up with anything.

Ever since installing SP3 on Office 2002, I am receiving this same erro
on 20 or so of my office computers. All computers have at least on
.pst, all of which reside on their own harddrives. Scanpst reveals n
errors with any of their .pst's. All of the users shutdown thei
Outlook properly, and then shut down their machines at the end of th
day.

The machines in question range from laptop to desktop, some hav
Windows XP and some have Windows 2000 (both pro versions). Some us
Word as their editor in Outlook, others not.

I am completely baffled by this and can't find a common thread to begi
to resolve it.
*Alright. Is the pst-file located on a network share?
Run scanpst.exe against your pst-file and see if it comes up wit
anything.
