Personal Folder(s) problem(s) Outlook 2000

In the Folder List I had one folder named 'Outlook Today - (Personal
Folder)' and a couple named 'Personal Folder'.

Before I learned how to properly delete the Personal Folders (today), I
was trying various means in an attempt to get rid of them.

In the process, I shut down Outlook. When I reopened it, there were two
more folders named 'Outlook Today - (Personal Folder)' with the same
subfolders and contents as the original.

Don't know what I did. What can I do to delete the two that popped up?
When I attempt to close them I get the error message that I can't
close a folder that contains your calendar, contacts, POP mailbox.

Many TIA.

If you happen to have Outlook 2000 configured in Corporate/Workgroup mode,
you're in luck -- you can just create a new mail profile and assign your .PST
to it and it will only show up once thereafter. But if you're using Internet
Mail Only mode (look in Help | About Microsoft Outlook if you're not sure
what mode you're in), it's going to be harder since IMO mode doesn't support
profiles. In that case, see if the information on the following page helps:

http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/oltrble.htm#disconnectpst

For future reference, never overwrite one .PST file with another -- that's
the usual culprit for the duplicate Personal Folders problem. .PST files can
be stored anywhere on your hard drive; you just need to tell Outlook which
one you want to use.

Thanks. I seem to have a problem here, also. Help | About Microsoft
Outlook | System Info gives me an error message, "Can't find the system
information." Is this where it should tell me which mode I am in?

Turns out I do not use Outlook for email (only with my PDA, which I
don't yet use for email either), and it says "No email" at the top of
the info screen, About Microsoft Outlook

So, I still have no idea what to do. Any further guidance would be
appreciated.

Are you referring to the method of returning Outlook to the original
install default?

Whoops. I see the important hints at the bottom of the page.

Many thanks. I'll give them a try.

You're right, there is a third mode, "No e-mail", if you don't have any
e-mail accounts configured. In that case you'd still have to use the
instructions on the Slipstick page. I saw your subsequent reply to the one
below and I hope you will be able to get it straightened out -- let me know.
