Personal contacts folder improperly closed

I keep getting an error message: personal contacts folder was improperly
closed.

Can someone help?

Outlook then spends many minutes fixing the data file.

Are you contacts kept in a separate data file? Something must be holding it
open when you close Outlook. Are you synching to a handheld perhaps?
