False message Outlook not closed properly

Brockest

Almost every time I open Outlook 2002 I get a message saying that OL was
closed improperly. Takes up to five minutes to check the data. This began
happening suddenly after several years of use.

How big is the .pst file? Have you tried running Detect and Repair? How
about scanpst.exe?

After you close Outlook, check with the Task Manager (Processes tab) if
Outlook is *really* closed.

-- Thanks Milly. The .pst file is just under 500 MB. It was much larger
ealier until I deleted many old messages and archived many keepers.

This sounds like it could be the issue here. What is a reasonable limit for
the .pst file?

A very busy retiree.

Usually caused by some add-in that isn't allowing Outlook to close properly.
Look in Tools>Options>Other>Advanced Options>COM Add-Ins and Add-In Manager to
see what add-ins you have. Disable them all, then reenable them one at a time
until you find the add-in that interferes.
