persistent network drive(s)

old network is gone, however, remaining 3 pcs in office still have old
network drives listed as network drives; they will not disconnect; i receive
an error message telling me "there is no network to disconnect" yet the drive
letter remains;

i can and have renamed them to old1, old2, old3 to help prevent users from
attempting to access non existent locations.

i have attempted to use a workaround i found here, in dos window, net use
<drive>: /del

it tells me the network connection could not be found, but does not remove
it from the mapped drives listing either;
