periodic stalling

My computer will periodicly slow to a near halt, almost
to the point of freezing, and i've only recently been
having memory dumps. any fixes?

on another possibly related note, cidaemon.exe keeps
jumping to about 95% cpu usage.

cidaemon.exe is the Windows XP indexing service. Many users feel this is not
needed, but you should decide for yourself. Open the Help and Support Center
and search for information on the indexing service. You'll also be shown how
to turn it off, if you wish to.
