Periodic slow down on Win2k Adv. Serv. SP3 running terminal services

I am running win 2k advanced server sp3 on an HP Proliant
720 with 12 gigs of memory and 8 1.5 ghz processors. I
have terminal services installed, and every so often the
server will stop responding to TS requests. If you view
the CPU performance on the task manager during these
periods, the processor utilization falls off to almost 0%
for about a minute or two, then spikes to usually 50-80%.
I just can't figure out what is causing this. Operations
return to normal after one of these "occurences" but it
can be disrupting because so many people are on the server
at any one time. any ideas?

Make sure you have the current Firmware for your Motherboard, RAID COntrollers, SCSI Drives & NIC as these can often be the culprit.

Curious, why such a big machine for TS, or are you using this machine for other purposes?
