I have a noisy fan that sits on a zif socket. Off the
chip, the fan is soundless, on the chip, it's really
noisy. Is there anything I can sit the fan on to cushion
vibration? Where can i get it?
Sorry for this non-tecky request, but it's a nightmare!!

If you can tell me what a zif socket is exactly maybee i
can help. There are so many terms for a single peice of
hardware or software ...its insane

A ZIF socket is a Zero Insertion Force socket. A popular method of
mounting PGA (Pin Grid Array) CPU's

That will be determined by the amount of "slack" in the attaching clip.
I tended to favor the grease/compound as you would fill the little
imperfections for better heat transfer. Either way you will be better
off than it is now.
