I repeat my previous reply (which shows up perfectly OK in my newsreader):
A good starting point for all help would be
for your to compose a precise and complete
problem report. Neither Dell nor this newsgroup
can help you unless you say exactly what's going
on, e.g.
- Recent history of PC (hardware, software).
- Where exactly does the machine get to?
- What do you mean with "Debug mode"?
- Does the keyboard work (e.g. the CapsLock light)?
- Does the mouse work?
- Does Ctrl+Alt+Del work?
- Have you tried Safe Mode?
- Have you tried "Last Known Good Configuration"?
From two seperate browsers, your message was totally blank. Now from this third one, I can read it.
Thanks again for posting
My Dell Poweredge300 offers several choices at startup when you press the f10 key
Norma
SafeMod
SafeMode with Networ
Debug Mod
MSDO
Last Known Good Configuratio
The machine will boot up normally only in Debug Mode although I haven't tried last know good configuration or MSDOS. I don't know what debug mode gets me that's different from normal
Normal and the Safe Modes get me to the login screen. I enter my admin username and password, it's the only user on the box. We are not running DNS
In normal mode, I get my admin wallpaper but never get a start bar or desktop. In the safe modes, I get a cmd.exe box on a black screen. When I exit the cmd.exe, I get nothing but the black screen with "Safe Mode" in all four corners
I've seen a "Step Through" mode that allows you to go yes or no to each command during boot but It's been some time ago and I can't figure out how to initiate it
MS says call Dell and Dell says go jump in a lake
And I don't know why I can't read your posts from my primary browsers
desktop. In the safe modes, I get a cmd.exe box on a black screen. When I
exit the cmd.exe, I get nothing but the black screen with "Safe Mode" in all
four corners.
I've seen a "Step Through" mode that allows you to go yes or no to each
You might have a problem with explorer.exe. Try this when booting in Normal
Mode:
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc. This should bring up the Task Manager.
- Click "New Task", then type explorer.exe. This might cause the desktop to
pop up, or it might start an Explorer screen.
