Peek-A-Boo

That's what it seems like to me. When MSAS is running, it plays peek-a-boo
in my system tray. I go to click on it and the icon disappears. When it
does a scan and generates a report, saying that I have two pieces of
spyware it's detected, I go to click on the app to try to clean the spyware
and the app just vanishes. Peek-a-boo!

Anyone else experiencing this?

PS - I also can't uninstall it, nor can I seem to kill it in Task Manager.
It's settled in for good, and I guess I can wait for an update that
corrects it. I'm running XP Pro.

Nah--you've got a bad install of some sort.

If you don't have a listing for the program in Control Panel, add or remove
programs, you should download fresh and install again.

If you do have it in add or remove programs, do change, update.

If #1 fails, let me know.

If one or the other of these appears to work fine, but doesn't solve the
problem ditto.

I will try that, thanks.

How could I have gotten a bad install if I got it from the MS site and
didn't have any apparent problems when I installed it?

I'm not suggesting that there was anything wrong with the binary you did the
install from, but there are a number of issues in these groups that seem to
relate to an individual installation--i.e. they go away on a reinstall from
the same download.

There is, as it happens, a new binary available at the download site, which
you can reach via http://www.microsoft.com/spyware

It probably would have been better advice to suggest that you download that
new binary and let it upgrade your current installation.

system restore will get rid of it.
there should be a restore point for when it was installed.

I have no problems with it on 2000, 2000 server, xp home
and xp pro.

If you have the taskbar set to hide inactive icons you will see this.

As a matter of fact, I do, but no other app plays this peek-a-boo game with
me.

I've completely uninstalled it now, and will do a reinstall soon. Hope it
matters.

Also, I am using NOD32 for my anti-virus program, which is a darn sight
faster than Norton/Symantec. Any known compatibility issues with NOD32?
