PDF's don't open, just save

Michael

Greetings!

I am running W2K and IE6 with the latest patches along with
Adobe Standard 6.

Certain web sites publish information as PDF's and in IE
(Firefox won't work at all, BTW) I get a Save As... dialog
box for the pdf file rather than seeing the pdf appear in
the browser.

Most other web sites I go to launch Adobe in the browser
window just fine so I know it isn't an association issue.
Besides, I checked those settings manually.

The really screwy thing is, some systems do launch the
reader just fine. I'm pulling my hair our trying to find
what the difference is between the systems. The patches,
JVM's, plugins, Adobe versions, user rights, explorer
settings, and Adobe settings all match identically. Aside
from copying the drive from one system to another, does
anyone have a better idea where to look for differences?

I have read the two relevant threads on this group and tried
all their settings but to no avail.

Has anyone seen this behavior?

Help!

-Michael

The fact that it won't work in FF suggests that the site you're getting
the PDF from has some funky javascript that may disable the open with
functionality.

Right click the link and choose open - what happens? Have you looked at
the source of the page in question?

Uninstall all versions of Adobe (Acrobat) Reader and then either install the
newest version from Adobe or install Foxit:
