pdfs blocked

I can't seem to download pdfs through IE6 using windows
xp. I use a sony vaio with 1 gig of ram and im on dsl.
Disabling the firewall doesn't seem to help. This started
to be a problem a couple of months ago but I've had the
computer for about a year.
