.pdf & Word docs don't open in browser

Suddenly, and for a reason not apparent to me, neither acrobat .pdf nor
WORD .doc documents have stopped opening within my IE6 browser (Win XP),
but rather they download and I have to manually open them within their
own apps.

When I use Mozilla Firefox they still open within the browser.

I've uninstalled & reinstalled my Adobe Acrobat (6.0 pro) but no joy.
Any ideas?

I meant to type that pdf and doc files BOTH have stopped opening within
the browser...

Don't know about the Word documents, but try this for the PDF
docs:

In Adobe Reader / Edit / Preferences / Left pane: Internet
/ Right pane: under Web Browser Options make sure "Display PDF
in browser" is checked / (I have the other 3 items checked
also).

Thank you George. Yea, I saw that in the Acrobat "help" section.. mine
was alsready set that way, but even unchecking and then rechecking - and
uninstaling & reinstalling it didn't fix it for IE6. I'll keep
playing with it, but am using my Mozilla Foxfire browser right now for
the specific site that gives my all the .pdfs I'm using. Otherwise I
have to download/save every one just to look at it... no "view and
delete" with the IE6 issue.

Hello, Harry. You might want to try this:
1. Open "My Computer."
2. Open either the "View" or "Tools" menu, depending on which OS you
have.
3. Select "Folder Options."
4. Select the "File Types" tab.
5. Look under "Extensions" for "PDF." The "File Types" entry should read
"Adobe Acrobat Document."
6. Select the appropriate button that allows you to edit the file type's
properties.
7. Make sure the "Confirm open after download" check box has a check mark
in it.
8. Click OK in the file type properties window.
9. Repeat steps 5-8 for extension "DOC", which is file type "Microsoft
Word Document."
10. After that, the next time you open a "PDF" or "DOC" file in Internet
Explorer, it should prompt you as to whether you want to "open the file or
save it to your computer." Select "Open" and you're off to the races.

Brandon/Harry:

Thank you for yor help. Brandon, I was able to do part of your fix, then I
got stuck. So, I got frustrated and deleted the MWord as the PDF software and
added Adobe as a NEW software for PDF in MY Documents. And now it is working
great. My girlfriend was downloading a pdf file and Adobe was not a selection
so, she selected MWord. From then on everytime you selected a pdf file. MWord
would open it. And of course you could not read it.

Thanx,
Thomas

P.S. There is several people on this Bullentin Board with the same problem.
Maybe Microsoft can send this fix and or a patch to all.
