*.pdf files crash IE 6

drobie

I am stuck in an endless loop.

I can open a few *.pdf's through IE and then suddenly one crashes the
browser, and IE closes instantly when the pdf tries to open.

I go in to Acrobat and uncheck a box in preferences that says: "Open pdf in
browser". I am then am able to successfully call up Adobe docs for awhile
but then eventually I get an error message that says something like: "doc
not in %pdf format" .

I go back into Acrobat and recheck the box that says "Open pdf in browser".
Once I do that, opening pdf's in IE works for a couple of instances but then
the browser starts crashing again.

The two scenarios are repeated in exactly the same way over and over. I
have uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat, but am quite sure this is a
problem with the way my IE handles pdf docs.

Any ideas on what's corrupted in IE?

See these sites for possible help:
Clicking links to PDF files in Internet Explorer causes Acrobat or Adobe
Reader to start and then quit (7.0 on Windows)

PDF pages don't appear in web browser window (Acrobat 7.0, Adobe Reader 7.0)

Configure Internet Explorer or AOL to display PDF files (Acrobat 7.0, Adobe
Reader 7.0 on Windows)

Troubleshoot system errors or freezes (Acrobat 7.0 on Windows XP)

Delete the "Updater" folder, then reinstall AR:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application
Data\Adobe\Acrobat\7.0\Updater
(you'll have to have Windows set to show Hidden files to do this)

Delete AR's temp files
Go to Start...Run, type in "cmd", hit Enter.
Type "cd\" (no quotes) <Enter>
Type "del acr*.tmp /s" (no quotes) <Enter>
Close the cmd window.

Or, do a Start...Search...Files for "acr*.tmp" (no quotes) and delete them
all.

Try creating a new User Account w/ Admin. privileges and install AR there.

If still no joy, you might want to consider using an earlier version of AR:
