PDF Thumbnails not displaying in Windows Explorer

I have a user that has a folder full of PDF files. He has thumbnail view
turned on for this folder. 99% of the PDF files are displayed with the first
page of the PDF file as the thumbnail. There are a small handful of files
though that just show the generic PDF icon.

How can we get the rest of the PDF files to display the first page as the
thumbnail? Is this a Windows Explorer issue or that way the PDF file was
created?

Thanks,
Kent

Windows doesn't show thumbnails for PDFs. Ask the company that provided the thumbnail generator. Probably adobe.

Though most people complain of adobe's thumbnail generators crashing their computers.

Adobe Reader v7 will show thumbnail views in Win2K and WinXP.

With Acrobat 7, I have one file that does not appear as a thumbnail of the
first page. The first page of the Acrobat file consists of two photos plus
some additional graphic. My guess is that the first page just exceeds the
capability of the thumbnail generator.

BTW, I do not have a third party thumbnail generator.

The code in Win ME which I was familar with would only spend 2 secs building a thumbnail then Explorer would tell the thumbnail generator not to bother anymore if it hadn't finished.
