Is there a PDF reader that lets you mark the page you're on (or that saves
it automatically when you close it) so you can go straight back to it at a
later session?

Thanks.

The free Acrobat Reader allows you to do that, it's under "File" menu
"Preferences", "Retain View On Close".

I'm using an old version of Acrobat, I'm guessing they haven't ditched
this feature (if they have, I'll never update it).

It does! (v7.0.2 here)
It's an essential feature for me too.
Why don't you upgrade? Version 7 is much faster.

Running 98se here, Maria Luisa. I guess there's lots of things I should
get around to updating... One of these days :)

Thanks. I was using ver 5 which didn't appear to have it. I've just
installed ver 7 from a magazine cover disk and I'm happy now.

I'm using Acrobat Reader Version 7, but I can't see anything about
'Preferences', 'Retain View On Close' under the 'File' menu. There's a
'Preferences' under 'View', but that doesn't lead to 'Retain View On
Close'. V5 and V6 don't have it either. What am I doing wrong?

Look at:
Edit - Preferences - Startup -> Reopen documents to last viewed page:
and set it to "All files"

Well, I've tried that, but it ignores it. It re-opens at the beginning
of the document.

Not to worry. Computers are only human, and often have a mind of their
own.

Thanks all the same,
Ian.
