pdf hyperlink problem

I have tried to hyperlink a pdf file to a page on my website. I have imported the file and followed the directions but when I try to use the hyperlink I get a little box with a red 'x' in it. When I test the link before uploading, it works fine but not when I preview it. Please help - Dr Kathy
 
Dear Dr.Kathy:

When you look at your web page in HTML view, what exactly
is the link? Does it refer to a folder on your computer
rather than the direct path on the web site?

If your pdf is uploaded to a directory folder
called "library" for example, does the link
read "www.websitename.com/library/filename.pdf"?
Or is your pdf simply in main directory? If so, the URL
should read "www.websitename.com/filename.pdf".
Whichever way you want it, make sure your pdf is where it
should be.

Did you import the PDF file into your web prior to linking to it?

I tried previewing in both Netscape and Internet Explorer and the problem still remains. I'm loking for something to open the image. I know it's there, but I just can't open it when it's published or previewed.
 
Do you have the Acrobat Reader installed?
Can you provide a URL to the page with this link?

Hi Dr. Kathy,

It is helpful if you quote whom you're replying to, as many people have
their newsreaders set so that read messages are not displayed, and it's
difficult to tell what you're replying to therefore.

I have been able to look over the past messages to figure out what is going
on here, though. It seems to me that you published the page, but not the PDF
file.

Long Shot: do you have some sort of security setting in IE which prevent
this file being displayed? I think IE security settings affect FP
preview. Did you try to view the file in IE (use a File/Open menu in IE).

Can you post here the exact line of HTML for this link.

It ought to be something like:

<a href="filename.pdf">sample pdf link</a>

Well, you can look for it on the site you published to. How did you publish
the page? Did you publish the entire web, or just selected pages?

After you have imported the document, add text to your page, then right
click the text and set a hyperlink to the PDF document.

When you published, did you publish both the document containing the link,
and the PDF file? What is the URL to the PDF file pointing to? A file
location or an HTTP URL?
