PCL XL error

I am using a HP Laserjet 2300 at home with win xp pro 2002 with service
pack 2. I am continually getting the following PCL XL error:

Subsystem: KERNEL
Error: IllegalOperatorSequence
Operator: EndChar
Position: (a number which varies)

I have reinstalled the driver and unplugged the power, waited,
replugged, etc. yet still nothing. Anyone have any ideas?

Have you contacted HP, or looked for an updated driver? What about printer
firmware updates?
(There is more than one version of your printer.) Since this is a
discontinued printer, you may need to use another printer emulation mode,
such as postscript.
