PCL codes not making it to the printer

Since switching to W2k any escape codes that are embedded in a printout are
not making it to my HP 2100 network printer. Is there a driver setting that
controls this feature??

The codes are embedded by our ERP system database application. I've also
created text file using an editor with the same embedded codes and they
don't work either if I use Notepad to print, however, if I issue a
copy /b filename to \\server\printqueue
command of the same text file it prints ok.

Previously it would print ok using an HP PCL5e driver but not the PCL6
driver. I've also tried printing to a file and viewing the file and it
appears that the driver is trying to send everything to the printer as
graphics even though it just courier text. I can't find any of the
printable character strings in the output file.

any thoughts

If you have a file containing PCL, copy /b is the correct method to transfer
it to the PCL printer.

If you are printing that from Notepad, then it is telling the Windows driver
to print something that *looks* like the PCL codes you see on the screen,
rather than just sending the codes.

That's why I asked. Those are obviously two very different things. Think
about it!

Paul.
