PCIP Settings IP addresses

I have just tried to install virgin broadband on my mums pc.... after 12
minutes @£1 a minute with the PC help line and 3 seperate tweny five minute
calls @25p a minute I am no further...apparently the winsock files are
corrupt and the pc is allocating its own ip address 169....... apparently i
need to reinstall the PCIP settings / files....any idea how i can obtain
these online copy to cd and install on mums pc? or would reinstalling windows
xp solve the problem?

I recommend that you get some assistanc from a friend who
has experience with Windows networking. He/she may
resolve your problem in no time at all.

Hi, Anna - Pegagus' reply is worth considering. However, if that isn't an
option right now, here's one thing you could try first:

Download Winsock Fix from the following link, on another
(working/connected) computer

Download it somewhere & then copy it to a removable hard drive or USB memory
stick. Then plug that into your mum's computer and see whether you can see
the drive
Launch the file
Let it take its defaults and then it will reboot the PC.

If that doesn't fix the problem, I do suggest you find some expert local
help to come in and assist you.
