PCI Slots

I have two PCI slots. I recently took out a 3com Ethernet card to replace it with a Netgear wireless adaptar card. Now my pc freezes when I have the card in the old 3com slot. How to I reconfigure that slot to read a new piece of hardware?
 
Use device manager to remove the hardware in the PCI slots,
then reboot and plug and play should detect the "new"
hardware.
