pci simple communications controller - error

After installing a software package and then removing it I
started getting an error...NO MODEM. I checked and sure
enough the modem was wiped out. I tried re-installing it
and every time I do I get an error:
PCI SIMPLE COMMUNICATIONS CONTROLLER ERROR..
SEARCH FOR DRIVER ...
I can find nothing about this and have tried letting it
seach the Win2000 cd thinking it would certainly be
there.It didn't find it.

HELP!!!
