PC Utilties Issue 44

Norman Cohen

A couple of days ago I was early for a doctor's appointment. Consequently I
mosied over to a Barnes & Noble where I discovered a British Computer
Magazine entitled PC Utilities. The magazine was bundled with a CD which is
emblazoned with the inscription "504 Utilities, Over 400 Freeware Tools".

I have looked at the index of files on the CD and it appears many of the
files are freeware, most of which I am already familiar with.

All of this is to advise the group that I am willing to upload the entire
CD, or as an alternative Email it (FTP?..I don't know how) to any of the
guru's on the group for review, action and comment.

Bear in mind, I don't know how to post a cd to the group. I am using both
outlook express and mozilla thunderbird 0.4 as newsreaders.

You can use Karen's Directory Printer to save all the program names from the
CD and then cut and paste them into a post for this newsgroup.

Are there any good sheep herding softwares on that cd?

"The moon's cycle of phases is 29.53 days, while the human female
menstrual cycle averages 28 days (although it varies among women and
from time to time with individual women); this is hardly even a good
coincidence! The corresponding estrus cycles of some other mammals are
28 days for opossums, 11 days for guinea pigs, 16 to 17 days for sheep,
20 to 22 days for sows, 21 days for cows and mares, 24 to 26 days for
macaque monkeys, 37 days for chimpanzees, and only 5 days for rats and
mice. One could argue, I suppose, that the human female, being more
intelligent and perhaps aware of her environment, adapted to a cycle
close to that of the moon, while lower animals did not. But then the 28-
day period for the opossum must be a coincidence, and if it is a
coincidence for opossums, why not for humans?"

Dont ask! I found the above while surfing the net doing some research.
Now, what I want to know is: Who the hell do they get to sit down and
document this stuff? I don't think I could observe a sheep for 17 days.

Silly question number 1: Of course there are several "sheep herding" files
on the CD. I would never have purchased the mag/cd without.

Just curious -- how much does B&N charge for it as an import?

(It's £4.99 here in the UK, and according to their web-site they'll
ship it anywhere in the world for another £2.00 --
http://www.livepublishing.co.uk/pcutilities/index.shtml. I'm just
mildly curious whether B&N charge less/same/more for it.)

I bought it yesterday cost me $16.95 Canadian plus taxes, pricey I think
, but i did find some good freeware on the disk that I wouldn't normaly try
to download because of size and dialup. Still debating if it was worth it.
Remember tho that it is NOT all freeware.

There are a lot of sickos out there. Not all of them are here in
A.C.F.

Damn straight. Speaking of which, authorities up here think that Bin
Laden may have gotten out of Pakistan somehow and relocated to Canada.
Hope this is just rumour,

Canadian Immigrant Poem

I cross ocean,
poor and broke,
Take bus,
see employment folk.

Nice man treat me
good in there,
Say I need to
see welfare.

Welfare say,
"You come no more,
We send cash
right to your door."

Welfare cheques,
they make you wealthy,
Medicare it keep
you healthy!

By and by,
I got plenty money,
Thanks to you,
Canadian dummy.

Write to friends
in motherland,
Tell them 'come
fast as you can.'

They come in turbans
and Ford trucks,
I buy big house
with welfare bucks

They come here,
we live together,
More welfare cheques,
it gets better!

Fourteen families,
they moving in,
But neighbor's patience wearing thin.

Finally, white chap
moves away,
Now I buy his house,
and then I say,

"Find more aliens
for house to rent."
And in the yard
I put a tent.

Send for family
they just trash,
But they, too,
draw the welfare cash!

Everything is
very good,
And soon we
own the neighborhood.

We have hobby --
it's called breeding,
Welfare pay
for baby feeding.

Kids need dentist?
Wife need pills?
We get free!
We got no bills!

Canadian crazy!
He pay all year,
To keep welfare
running here.

We think Canada
damn good place!
Too damn good for
the white man race.

If they no like us,
they can scram,
Got lots of room in
Pakistan.

Poko - I found your poem in your sig extremely racist and offensive.

I can appreciate that people have views like yours, but I would also
appreciate it if you would refrain from posting this stuff in here -
this group is for discussing freeware

Thanks

Alastair and group,
I apologize if that is how it was perceived. Receiving this poem at a
late hour, I found it cute. It does not, however, represent my views on
immigration policies or the like and again, I apologize.

Whatever happened to freedom of expression?

The poem was part of the man's signature, fergawdsake, not part of the
discussion in which he was participating ... therefore hardly appropriate
for a complaint about topicality, nor deserving of such a public
upbraiding. Could this /private/ matter not have been dealt with in
E-Mail?

It Is Not Easy,
To apologize,
To begin over,
To be unselfish,
To take advice,
To admit error,
To face a sneer,
To be charitable,
To keep trying,
To be considerate,
To avoid mistakes,
To profit from one's mistakes,
To forgive and forget,
To think and then act,
To keep out of a rut,
To make the best of little,
To subdue an unruly temper,
To shoulder a deserved blame,
but it always pays!

Was posted in a public place - was a long poem - not a 2 line sig -
and if you advise me to take this private, then why not a private
email to me ?

Besides - if you read the thread - as poko said - issue is done and
dusted.

It's not politically correct anymore.

:)

It is - you are free to express your views, i am free to complain that
this is an inappropriate forum

:)

How would you feel if I express in graphical terms my sexual
preferences in detail - freedom of expression - sure - but not what
you download this newsgroup to read.

chill :)
