PC Turns off after a few seconds

When i turn the PC on, the XP logo appers on the screen and the PC starts to
boot up. But after a few seconds it just turns its self off.

I have replaced the Power supply unit but it still turns off, And put a new
Heat sink on, but it still turns off.

I have even tried it with another hard drive but the same thing happens. Any
advice would be appreciaed.

Are all the fans spinning?

What temperature is reported in the BIOS for the CPU and system?

Did you try removing all daughtercards except video, remove all components
except CPU and memory, and unplug all devices from the power supply (except
the motheboard)?

What happens if you boot from CD. Does it run or shutdown? If so its not
hardware unless overclocked or overheating. Will it start in safe mode? If
so run AV and spyware scans. If it shutsdown from CD and safe mode I would
remove all extras from the computer. Have it so only motherboard, graphics
card (or onboard), hard drive, mouse, keyboard, monitor and power supply are
connected. You could even see if it will start without mouse and keyboard if
you don't have spares to try. Try removing all memory and just put one stick
back if there are two sticks (will reseat the memory in case of bad
connection). If two sticks try one then the other. You need to minimise all
the hardware to try and find out what is causing the problem. You've
eliminated power supply. I assume its not overclocked in any way. Repost
with results.

Yes all the fans spinning, it only runs for 50 seconds, so i would not
thought it would have chance to get hot?

will try other surggestions later,

Tried unplugging everything, and messed about with the ram. It did boot for a
bit longer and i was able enter set up. The CPU temp was 53 when it shut
down??

If the CPU fan is not spinning the CPU will fry itself in as little as
10 seconds or less. Those chips heat up very fast.

You mentioned you changed the heat sink. Did you make sure there is
some type of thermal compound between the sink and the CPU chip? If
not then the sink is not transferring the heat away from the cpu
effectively enough.

Have you checked the BIOS to see what the Temp limits are set at?
Maybe the limits have been set too low and the system is shutting down
when it really does not need to.

Does it shut itself down just sitting in the BIOS setup and doing
nothing else? If so then it is defenitely a heat issue.
