PC Speed

Hi,
Don't know if this is the correct forum for this or not, but here goes.
I have one PC on a network of 40 which is running very, very slow. So far I
have tried removing spyware, deleting all temp files and unnecessary files,
removing items from startup, defragging, and running anti-virus, but nothing
seems to help. Any ideas? Thanks very much in advance!

Is the machine clean? Review my general malware/virus removal steps

If you used similar techniques and are satisfied the machine is indeed
clean, then it may have hardware problems. Check and see if the hard
drive is in PIO mode instead of one of the DMA flavors. Here is a link
to MVP Hans-Georg Michna's information about that:

http://www.michna.com/kb/WxDMA.htm

If the drive was in PIO mode and you are unable to set it to DMA per
Hans-Georg's information above, then the drive is probably failing. Run
a diagnostic utility downloaded from the drive mftr.'s website. If the
drive fails any physical tests, replace it.

Sounds like a hard disk problem. Check the event log you may have entries
relating to a hard disk failing. Also try finding out the make of the hard
disk and running a diagnostic which can be downloaded from the manufacturers
website

The first thing I would check is the DMA/PIO status of the drives Device
Manager as Malke suggested. Also see this link.
