I have a fairly new Gateway PC with WinXP Media edition, and it
sometimes will not boot. They recommend I mail it back to them and wait
a few weeks for them to fix it. I may just have to do this, but before
that I thought I'd ask and see if anyone can hlep first.
When it does this, it will immediately go to a screen with the Gateway
logo and at the bottem it says BIOS setting <F2> BOOT Options <F10>
When I try either F2 or F10 or F anything or any key, nothing happens.
The keyboard will not respond. The only option that does anything is to
turn it off and back on a again. Usually it will do the same thing
again, but after maybe 3-6 times it will finally boot normally. I check
the Event Log and according to it nothing special happened. The PC then
works fine. What could it be, and what can I do?

Alice, do what Gateway recommends. What you described is usually a
Hardware problem. Let them fix it.
