Vista Home premium - Failure to boot

W

Warthog47

Gateway DX4710, Home Premium 64-bit, 6Gb ram.
Plugged in an Ion external drive, system grenaded.
Unplugged drive and now cannot boot system.
Get to the Gateway splash screen, Intel logo lower left, Boot Menu <F10> and
BIOS setting <F2> on lower right.
Neither will respond.
Rebooted pressing <F8>, per Gateway manual, and no response.
Unplugged everything except monitor, keyboard and mouse.
Still not responding.
Suggestions?

Since you're not even getting to the point where the operating system would
load, you have hardware failure. Contact Gateway for repair/replacement if
under warranty. If not under warranty, you may want to try hardware
troubleshooting it yourself or take the machine to a local computer
professional. I don't recommend using a BigComputerStore/GeekSquad type of
place.

I am a cheap SOB so I went through pretty basic stuff.
Removed and reinstalled the hard drive; reseated the RAM; reseated all
connections.
Somewhere in there, something changed.
Machine is functional again.

Thanks for the tip.

Glad you got it sorted. Thanks for taking the time to let me know.
