PC shutting down - restarting ( part II )

My PC shuts down while I am using Cakewalk Home Studio
XL ( Music recording software ) - It seems to do it only
when I am using this. It then restarts and creates a
minidump file.

Before it restarts a blue screen appears and says - "A
PROBLEM HAS BEEN DETECTED AND WINDOWS IS SHUTTING DOWN TO
PREVENT DAMAGE TO YOUR COMPUTER"

"MAKE SURE HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE IS PROPERLY INSTALLED
AND ASK MANUFACTURERS IF ANY WINDOWS UPDATES ARE NEEDED"

The technical information:

*** STOP: 0xFFFFFFFF (0x00000001, 0x5F9C59E9,
0xE1A25010, 0xFFFFFFFF)

*** nv4_disp.dll-address BF9C59E9 base at BF9BB000, date
stamp 3f25a978

Beginning dump of physical memory

When it restarts a box appears "Windows has recovered
from a serious error,...." and asks if you want to send a
report to Microsoft.

I have 512MB RAM (PC2100 266mhz) An Athlon XP2400
processor, a 200GB hard drive. I am using an ECS K7VTA3
motherboard.

I previously uninstalled Windows 98 and formatted before
installing Home XP for the first time.

I have unistalled and reinstalled Cakewalk - I have
uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for my Sound
blaster Audigy sound card.

Any thoughts on why my PC shuts down would be appreciated.

.
nv4_disp.dll is an Nvidia video card DLL file used by the
video card driver. I would suggest down-grading your
nvidia driver to a 45.xx version. I had the same problem
with my Geforce FX 5200 Ultra when I upgraded to the 5x.xx
Forceware driver, when I uninstalled and re-installed 45
det. driver it worked fine. Give it a try.

Check the cakewalk website to see if there are any updated software necessary to run you version on win xp, there might be a patch for you problem. If there are no updates contact them to find out if they are aware of such a problem, they might help you there and then. Sounds like a typical software issue.

Good luck
