PC log in Issue

I am working with A Dell GX 260 Optiplex Tower with Windows XP SP1 installed
and connected to a corporate domain. I enter my user name and password to log
on. After a few seconds the desktop appears to open normally but then the
network connections close and the desktop reverts to the crtl-alt-del screen.
I have tried to log on with a different user name, using the local
administrator password and even safe mode. In each instance, the desktop
reverts to the crtl-alt-del screen.

The PC passed all Dell diagnostics. My colleagues suggested that I run a
utility called ERD commander since that previously resolved the same issue on
the same PC.
Does anyone have a more permanent solution?

See if there's anything recorded in the Event Log. Go to another computer, and
browse the Event Log for your problem computer.
# Start Event Viewer.
# Under Action, select Connect to another computer.
