PC lags after windows update

I've a lagging pc whenever i play FIFA 2004. I realized
this problem and i tried reinstalling windows XP. The end
result is FIFA 2004 ran smooth without any periodic lag.
This morning, i let my PC update itself at Windows
Update. When I played FIFA 2004 in the afternoon, the
periodic lag returned. Is an update on the website
faulty? I installed all the critical updates and drivers.
I have the latest drivers from the respective websites.

is this connected to this problem? i manually searched
each update online and found this. does my symptoms match
the one given here?

Hi,

I am also experiencing a problem as are others (Courtney,
Dick Shrewsbury, Marie, Allen, ogi, Pat Nolan, Bill W,
Dan, Keith, Mario)

Dick, Allen, Mario, and I all get temporarily cured by a
restart of the computer. When you reinstalled XP, you
had to restart the computer. But then the lag returned.
This seems to be a common condition.

We also have the CPU in the 90% range when it is slow and
nothing is open/running.

Look for posts with subjects of
Slow computer
High CPU usage

I feel like its a new, undocumented virus thingy
