My Pc keeps restarting, luckily it only usually happens when it is not in
use. I have disabled the automatic restart off via my computer, but I still
get no BSOD to see on error code. In event viewer I get 2 errors when it
happens
Source- Service Control Manager id-7023 decription -The Uninterruptible
Power Supply service terminated with the following error:
The UPS service could not access the specified Comm Port.

Source- UPS id 2482 description -The UPS service could not access the
specified Comm Port.
I have done a clean install of XP and it has not helped.
Any ideas??
Thanks

With little information given regarding your "system" e.g. when did the
culprit appear, is an UPS installed etc, the Microsoft article "Error
Message: The UPS Service Could Not Access the Specified Comm Port"

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/296859

may be helpful to start with.

I am using XP and the only things I have done in last 6 months, is had a new
monitor and a broadband hub. It has been getting worse over last week, but
when I use the comp it doesn't seen to do it, eg I was on my computer
yesterday for a few hours doing some work and it was just fine not long after
using it, it restarted, and later I got BSOD for the first time. Code shown:
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
STOP 0X000000D1 (0X00000000,0X000000F,0X00000000,0X00000000)
I have looked up these codes but there are so many different reasons for it.

I know nothing about UPS installed.

Thanks

hi dont know if you have already checked your system for power options to
check if it goes to restart if its not being used the other reason could be
that the processor is overheating check this in CMOS when the pc starts up
and check temp ok also try to remover your ram and clean it all this might
help hope it does good luck

I am puzzled by the error report in the Event Viewer, given you have NOT an
Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) installed in the AC power line, before
your PC. However points the Bug Check Code (BCC) 0X000000D1 towards that the
culprit is a driver conflict. The Microsoft article
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/293077/en-us#appliesto
addresses this BCC, although it applies for a different product and symptom.

Given that the PC is free from malware I'd would start the fault isolation
based on that the culprit is the installation of the new broadband hub or
monitor, with - or without drivers as required / correctly confgured:
- Check the Event Viewer for any of the UPS errors from the time BEFORE
installation of the two new devices.
- Check the Device Manager (Start\Run devmgmt.msc) for any error warnings.
- Go Safe Mode to get rid of quite a few drivers and watch for any restarts.
- As you have carried out a clean install of XP I presume you are not i
position to make a System Restore to a point before installation of the
devices.
- No detailed information is available regarding the broadband hub (or the
monitor), however can OTHER devices have a power control option which "wake
up" / power up a PC.
