PC Freezes on Boot

Hi

Occasionally my PC freezes on boot at the second POST window. If I then
press the restart button it boots up OK.

Has anyone any suggestions that might be the cause of this occasional freeze
and where I might look to find a log of what is happening (if one exists).

If it freezes on the POST window (in other words before Windows starts) then
it is a hardware rather than a Windows issue. Best to repost in a hardware
newsgroup.

Hi

Many thanks for your prompt reply. I shall keep an eye on it and do some
tests of my hardware.

As noted by another reply Power On Self-Text (POST) is a function of the
bios software. Diffferently, I will point out there is only one POST. In
the Award bios, the "2nd screen" is the bios summary of hardware and its
hardware irq assigments. If it freezes after entire display of this screen,
and there is no indication of disk or partition failure at bios handover,
could be the cmos is not holding previously saved data not related to user
controlled bios settings. I won't go any further as it gets too deep into
how the bios works in that specific time frame of the bios sequence.
