PC Docs and MS Word

B

Bru

Using Windows 2000 and Office 2000 and PC DOC 3.9.5 build 38.
Installed the latest MS SP2/hotfixes for MS W2K and MS Office 2000
SP3.

We are experiencing intermittent problems when saving and closing
documents in Word 2000. Upon exiting MS Word we receive the error on
Dr. Watson "winword.exe has generated errors...." The message is
sometimes encountered after the user has done work in the documents,
saves and exits MS Word. Upon exit the error appears.

And what I notice is when a user click on File menu. The drop down
menu does not show up. But you can click on the Edit menu and the
rest, the menu shows up except for the File menu.

Does anyone have any suggestions of what might be causing this
problem and have suggestions on a solution?

There are a couple of issues here. You probably have a corrupt data key in
the registry that is causing the menu problem - see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/MissngMenusEtc.htm

The crashing errors will leave a load of junk behind so before you go
further you'll need to wipe that up - see
http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm

The crashes themselves are almost certainly caused by minor corruption in
either normal.dot (rename it) or there are problems with an add-in (Norton
AV's office plug-in, Works add-in, Winfax and Acrobat add-ins are all likely
to cause problems - delete the first three and update the last). See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/CheckIfAddinsInstalled.htm
and in the case of Works -
