The antivirus component is superb. Did you get the antivirus program or
the entire security suite?

I've always been under the impression that you should only run one antivirus
program at a time because they may conflict with each other. I know that
running McAfee and Norton cause problems. I'd assume that running Norton with
any AV would do the same. Some people feel that running multiple firewalls is
good while others feel that it slows down Internet Explorer and can cause
other problems. I recently turned off my Windows Firewall and just use McAfee
with a hardware firewall in my DSL modem. It seemed to speed up my surfing.

No, but but in my opinion the standalone antivirus program is substantially
better than Norton and equal to the CA program that Zone Alarm uses.

You should think very carefully before installing a so-called "security
suite." If you hang around these newsgroups for awhile, you will begin to
see lots of posts from people who are having problems with these suites. In
my opinion, all you really need for a safe and secure system is a good
antivirus program, a good antispyware program (I use the Microsoft beta
program, which is free and which has worked better for me than other software
that I had to pay for), Ad Aware SE (www.lavasoft.com) (also free, and still
setting the gold standard for adware removal software), and the Windows
firewall that comes with SP2 (along with Windows Update patches and updates).
Not everyone agrees, especially about the firewall. But you won't find too
many posts here about problems with the Windows firewall, as opposed to lots
of posts about problems with Norton, Zone Alarm, etc. Yes, there is a lesson
there. And I have never had a security breach of any kind (adware, spyware,
viruses, trojans, or worms) with this setup.

I certainly wouldn't recommend running two AV programs in the
background at once. However there's nothing wrong with using a
second program to do a foreground virus scan.

The biggest problem I could think of is when one AV product expands a file
in a temp space to check/clean it and the other one detecting something in
that temp space and removing it before the first can finish. I've seen
that happen on antivirus scanners for Exchange while also running an AV
scanner for the OS.

I received it free also. Tried it, didn't like it, removed it.
Went back to AVG.

I got it with my mobo too - it's awesome

After several other av software I settled on Pccillin about 3 years
ago. It seemed to run best with XP and it updates regularly sometimes
4 times a day..
