I recently did a fresh install of XP pro on an desktop and cannot get out to
the internet.
The pc is setup with a wireless card as well as a laptop, both connect to a
router through a cable modem. The laptop is running XP home and connects to
the internet without a hitch.
From the PC I can ping the router as well as the laptop.
As far as I can determine both the laptop and PC have the same TCP/IP
configuration, although the PC is not running virus/ad/firewall while the
laptop is running all three.
On a similar issue, my laptop from work is configured into my home lan but
does not connect to the internet unless I open some VPN software that is used
to connect to work. After the initial connect the internet works fine. Work
PC is running Win-2000.
Home PC does not yet have SP2 installed.
I think the problem is DSN related, but all three computers see the router
and cable provider DNS entries.
