Patch for JPGs - Office 2003?

B

boe

I've got the latest patch for Office2003 with all the latest patches from
Microsoft Update and it still doesn't know how to handle JPGS!!!!!!!!

The only solution I've found it so install an OLDER version of Office XP on
top of my machine running 2003 and install the photo editor. What does MS
do for people who don't have an older copy of Office? If you preview a
report with out the OLDER version of Office, the jpg doesn't show.

I can't believe it has been two-three years since Office 2003 came out and
it still can't work properly with the most common form of pictures!

If you are storing images as OLE Objects, or using Bound OLE Frames to
display the picture, you must have _some_ image processor registered for
most file types -- only a few, like Windows bitmap, are handled "natively".
I can't believe it has been two-three years
since Office 2003 came out and it still can't
work properly with the most common form
of pictures!

The sample imaging databases at http://accdevel.tripod.com illustrate three
approaches to handling images in Access, and the download includes an
article discussing considerations in choosing an approach. Two of the
approaches do not use OLE Objects and, thus, avoid the database bloat, and
some other problems, associated with images in OLE Objects.

If you are printing the images in reports, to avoid memory leakage, you
should also see MVP Stephen Lebans' http://www.lebans.com/printfailures.htm.
PrintFailure.zip is an Access97 MDB containing a report that fails during
the Access formatting process prior to being spooled to the Printer Driver.
This MDB also contains code showing how to convert the contents of the Image
control to a Bitmap file prior to printing. This helps alleviate the "Out of
Memory" error that can popup when printing image intensive reports.

It is said that "It is better to light a single candle than curse the
darkness." See my other post, which may give you a way to "handle JPGs".
